The number of visitors to Fuerteventura has increased according to Government figures published for 2006.

The percentage increase was 7.96%, compared with 3.39% for Tenerife and 1.68% for Gran Canaria. These statistics supplied by the Canarian Government confirm that Fuerteventura’s attractiveness as a tourist destination continues to increase.

The number of tourists visiting Fuerteventura by air during 2006 was 104,588 more than for 2005, with an increase of international tourists of 7.94% with July accounting for most visitors with a total of 140,918 passengers.

Of those, German visitors top the table with 48.45% followed by the United Kingdom at 29.09% Italy 5.51% Holland 3.93% the Scandinavian countries at 2.98% Ireland at 2.98% Switzerland at 1.43% and France with 1.31%.

Counsellor for Tourism for the Cabildo, Olivia Estévez, “These numbers confirm Fuerteventura, not only as the Island of the Archipelago with the greatest increase in tourists, but also as a destination of quality”.
