Fuerteventura Visitors Increase

The number of visitors to Fuerteventura has increased according to Government figures published for 2006.
The percentage increase was 7.96%, compared with 3.39% for Tenerife and 1.68% for Gran Canaria. These statistics supplied by the Canarian Government confirm that Fuerteventura’s attractiveness as a tourist destination continues to increase.
The number of tourists visiting Fuerteventura by air during 2006 was 104,588 more than for 2005, with an increase of international tourists of 7.94% with July accounting for most visitors with a total of 140,918 passengers.
Of those, German visitors top the table with 48.45% followed by the United Kingdom at 29.09% Italy 5.51% Holland 3.93% the Scandinavian countries at 2.98% Ireland at 2.98% Switzerland at 1.43% and France with 1.31%.
Counsellor for Tourism for the Cabildo, Olivia Estévez, “These numbers confirm Fuerteventura, not only as the Island of the Archipelago with the greatest increase in tourists, but also as a destination of quality”. Besides, she continues, “the agreements with different businesses of the sector, have acted to raise the number of visitors to the island, setting the tendency to be followed in the coming year”.
